Tour text information

The Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area starts about 90km of Port Elizabeth, and it has long been considered a region of exceptional beauty. The area, which includes the Baviaanskloof Nature Reserve, is a strong drawcard for off-road travellers whising to immerse themselves in a mountain wilderness.

The Word Baviaanskloof, although derived from the Dutch “valley of baboons”, is associated with pristine nature, narrow gorges with flowing streams, steep mountain passes, vast plains with waving grasslands and views of unspoilt wilderness. Nature has taken its course over thousands of years to create what is today universally recognised as the Baviaanskloof World Heritage Site.

Our journey begins at Addo, where we will set up camp for the first night, get to know one another better, and talk about the adventure that awaits us the following day.

We head out for a lengthy and exciting journey after an early breakfast. We have a long and busy day ahead of us as we travel to the Baviaans. Today's journey will take us through several river crossings and some fun filled 4x4 driving.

The next morning, after spending our first night in the Baviaans, we will set out on a series of passes to reach our second campsite.  We will stop along route and have something to eat and explore the area before reaching our campsite.

On days three & four we will be testing our 4x4 vehicles capabilities and our driving skills. We explore  4x4 trails with difficulty ratings ranging from level 2 to 4. The fourth trail is not for the faint-hearted, this trail is 8km long that goes up the mountains with spectacular views.

After a jam packed and fun filled two day we head off on another 4x4 trail towards our next campsite. This trail offers another escape from the Baviaans over the Kouga mountain range. Not particularly strenuous, the trail is rated as a ‘2’ in difficulty, and majors on breathtaking mountainous scenery with views all the way to St Francis Bay and the Outeniqua Mountains on a clear day.

After spending some time in the pool and sitting around the campfire sharing and talking about the last couple of days 4x4 driving and breathtaking views, we head off to our last days 4x4 adventure. Today we will make our way to the coast line where we will spend our last day having some 4x4 fun.
